Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship Furniture Manufacturer

This intermediate Furniture Manufacturer apprenticeship is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the furniture manufacturing industry, and meet the needs of your employer.

You will be learning on the job in a workshop or factory with your employer. You will gain practical skills and develop and understanding of manufacturing processes to use hand tools and operating machinery.

Our expert tutors have years of experience in the industry and will provide you with outstanding support. You will also develop a sound knowledge of materials, health and safety regulations, and quality control procedures.

Modules Studied

Knowledge

• Industry knowledge and understanding of general background of the furniture industry.
• Knowledge and understanding of the company you are working in. This includes understanding the manufacturing process and how you contribute and fit into it.
• Knowledge and understanding of industry materials. Properties and characteristics of materials used within your organisation.
• Knowledge and understanding of customer expectations. Who are the industry customers and what are their expectations in terms of packaging and delivery?
• Know the quality standards which apply to the products and how to check that these have been met. Read and interpret specifications, drawings, cutting lists and other relevant technical information used within your organisation.
• Knowledge and understanding of the relevant health, safety and environmental requirements and regulations. Understand sustainability within the industry.

Skills:

• Perform regular autonomous maintenance tasks on machinery, tools and equipment used.
• Learn to identify issues quickly, solve problems and apply appropriate solutions.
• Achieve quality and output targets.
• Carry out work to required quality standards and output targets. High attention to detail, must monitor and check work meets specifications and must follow methodology and processes.
• Comply with health, safety and environmental requirements, relevant statutory regulations and industry standards/codes of practice at all times.

Times of Delivery

This is a 2 year course with the addition of the End Point Assessment period.

Any times indicated are based on current courses and may be subject to change in future years. Full timetables will be confirmed at the start of each course.

Teaching and Assessment

You will learn on the job in a work environment, or in the classroom with realistic situations.

You will be assessed in several ways via an End Point Assessment – including knowledge questions, synoptic practical assessment, a portfolio of evidence and observation.

End Point Assessment

The final assessment for the qualification is an End Point Assessment (EPA) which must be passed to achieve the full qualification.

This will include:

Portfolio assessment: The portfolio will cover all skills, knowledge and behaviour requirements as detailed in the Assessment Modules available from British Furniture Manufacturers Association.

The portfolio will need to be assessed at the end of the apprenticeship and must not have been assessed on programme. This will be assessed by the provider and employer and sampled by the Independent Assessor.

The knowledge tests: There are two tests consisting of multiple choice questions covering the core modules in health and safety and the industry. The question banks have been developed and are freely available to assessment organisations on request from The British Furniture Manufacturers Association.

Observation: The observed assessment will cover all the skills, knowledge and behaviour requirements as detailed in the relevant occupational assessment modules. It will also cover the core modules.

It is expected that the observation will take approximately 2 hours and will be done in the workplace, a training providers premises or another employers premises with suitable resources.

Entry Criteria

A grade 3 in GCSE maths and English, or Level 1 Functional Skills.

You will work towards Level 2 Functional Skills maths and English whilst on the programme.
