HND Top-up Construction & The Built Environment

The HND programme will provide you with a more advanced understanding of Construction and Management in the Built Environment. You will study key areas, such as contract procedures, project management and project research. It is designed as a top-up from the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework) HNC Construction and enables you to study on a day-release. You will attend college on a day-release basis. You will also be expected to conduct additional independent study during your own time away from college to complete the programme.

This programme aims to provide you with a more advanced understanding of construction and project management. It is designed as a top-up from HNC Construction and the Built Environment.

  • Group Project (Pearson-Set) (30 credits)
  • Contracts and Management (15 credits)
  • Project Management (15 credits)
  • Management for Complex Building Projects (15 credits)
  • Alternative Methods of Construction (15 credits)
  • Advanced BIM (15 credits)
  • Personal Professional Development (15 credits)

Times of Delivery

Your lessons will be timetabled on a Monday each week.

Any times indicated are based on current courses and may be subject to change in future years. Full timetables will be confirmed at the start of each course.

Teaching and Assessment

Each individual unit will use different teaching and learning strategies, depending upon the nature of the subject. The teaching and learning strategies will include a combination of different approaches, including:

  • Lectures
  • Workshops
  • Seminars
  • Individual and group presentations
  • Academic Tutorials
  • Site visits.

Placement

There are no formal work placement requirements, however, gaining experience in a real working environment will be encouraged.

Entry Criteria

You will hold the Higher National Certificate in Construction/Building Studies. This must be from the RQF pathway.

What are the next steps?

You will be invited to attend an interview at the College where your suitability to the course will be assessed.
