Installation And Maintenance Electrical Apprentice

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Daresbury Laboratory Estates Department is responsible for the development of the campus housing science and technology facilities, workshops and laboratories. 


Estates Services offer wide ranging support; from the provision of suitable buildings, workplaces and information and communications technology connectivity, through to an exceptionally wide range of business and staff support services, including developing our staff and ensuring their safety at all times. 

About The Role 

Estates Services in-house maintenance team has created an exciting opportunity for a Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrical Apprentice. Within this role, the apprentice will be required to work as part of a team to deliver efficient, effective and sustainable statutory maintenance service along with providing a reactive and minor works service across the Daresbury Laboratory Estate. 

Learning 

The apprentice will undertake professional development and training  which includes in-person teaching at Salford City College completing the Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship.  

In your final year, you will undertake an End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment will include a knowledge test, observation and scenario-based interview.

Working as part of an Estates Services internal team you will be delivering a service to the estate and customers, gaining knowledge, experience and learning new skills whilst carrying out a range of duties.  

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of health and safety, and safe working practices
  • Providing technical and functional information for work on electrical systems and equipment
  • Organise work programmes
  • Provide good communication with the maintenance team and other departments to ensure high standards of service.
  • Installation, test and inspection of electrical circuits
  • Maintain electrical circuits and equipment
  • Utilise fault finding and problem-solving techniques  
  • Deliver a high level of customer service. 

Person Specification

In order to apply for the role, we are looking for the following:

Key - (S) will be measured at shortlisting, (I) will be measured at interview, (S&I) is both. 

Essential: 

  • Achieved or predicted to achieve GCSEs 4 or above in Maths & English by September 2025 (S)
  • Practical experience and keen interest in engineering projects/solutions (S&I)
  • Practical experience and interest in electrical/electronic projects/solutions (S&I)
  • Keen to learn new skills, seeking new experiences (S&I)
  • Ability to work with a team (S&I)
  • Self-motivated (S&I)
  • Good time management (S&I) 

Desirable: 

  • Interested in science and physics (S&I) 

Important Information


1. To complete the apprenticeship, you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English. For those sitting their GSCEs in Summer 2025, we would need evidence of your predicted grades.
