ICT Technician Apprentice

Overview:

The main purpose of the role is to provide first-line technical support and guidance to staff and students across the Trust's schools, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues and contributing to the smooth operation of ICT systems.

The candidate will be working trust-wide, across the group of schools the trust operates across Greater Manchester/Stockport including: Whalley Range School and Sixth Form College, Levenshulme School, Parrs Wood High School and Sixth Form College and The East Manchester Academy.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with day-to-day maintenance, problem solving and fault resolution of all IT-related equipment and assist users with use of day-to-day software applications across a range of platforms.
  • Install and update software as needed and undertake basic network patching/cabling tasks. 
  • Perform Active Directory user, group and policy management tasks when directed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all ICT related equipment via the Trusts online asset management system.
  • Contribute towards individual projects as directed by the Director of IT Infrastructure and Trust IT Infrastructure Engineers.
  • Report breaches of the ICT acceptable use policy. 
  • Update digital signage displays with content provided by school staff.
  • Keep a check on daily backup status and proactive monitoring alerting.

Essential skills:

  • Experience and some technical knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
  • Understanding of PC maintenance and upgrades.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • The ability to work without supervision and prioritise own workload.

Additionally, the following experience is desirable:

  • Knowledge of Windows server technologies.
  • Basic understanding of network concepts (e.g. IP addressing, DNS, DHCP.)
  • Experience of other non-Microsoft Operating Systems and software.
  • Backup technologies.
  • Web and mail filtering concepts.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 265 or Google Workspace tools.

Entry requirements:

  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)
  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship is in a similar subject

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

37.5 hours per week.
