Before I joined, I worked in various shops and office jobs, but I wanted to gain employment in a more hands on and working outside profession where there is variety in the work place. Before I joined, I knew Barratt was a national house builder. When I applied, I did a lot of homework in preparation for me interview. I found out how professional the company is and what its values, training and prospects are for those willing to work hard.
Barratt is a very good company to work for. There is lots of support and advice from those that are happy to help and advise you. The Barratt apprentice coordinator is very helpful and always ready to give advice and feedback.
The best part of your job and the Apprentice Programme is being given a task and having the ability to carry it through to its conclusion, learning the build process and how to do things correctly. Also once trained in the use of power tools it is good to get on with work and learn new skills and how to best use power equipment safely and effectively. I also enjoy working alongside the other trades and seeing how their work impacts with mine.
Barratt are always there to guide you in your training and help you to progress if there are any problems no matter how big or small. ConstructionSkills are also there to assist you. Not forgetting that the site management team is made up of many ex-apprentices, current apprentices and trade personnel who have moved into management. You can’t get better than that.
I am looking forward to progressing to level three NVQ, learning new skills and being accepted even more as a real tradesman.
