Harriet Haygreen – Case Study

The AS Watson Group really believes in the value of apprentices. Celebrating ten years of its Apprenticeship Programme in 2017, its 12-month programme can open many different doors within its Superdrug and Savers stores. Always on the look out for ambitious and self-motivated school leavers, over 750 apprentices have been taken on during the past three years.

One of these is current Superdrug Apprentice of the Year, Harriet Haygreen. Although she started out studying animal management at college, Harriet discovered she loved working with the public while waitressing part-time. When she started researching jobs in retail "The Superdrug Apprenticeship really stood out,” explains Harriet. “They really value all of your hard work and it is true to say the more you put into it, the more you get out. It has such a friendly environment and was not 'just a job'. The amount of support and training I have received is incredible."

And as for the future? "I believe the apprenticeship has massively boosted my employability prospects,” she adds. “Unlike a college course or A Levels - where you just get a qualification - I have gained qualifications and experience where I have been learning on the job the previous year.” With her sights firmly set on continuing to work her way upwards, Harriet’s passion has recently been rewarded with a promotion to Assistant Store Manager and being accepted onto the Retail Management Training programme.
