Finance Apprentice - level 4
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I'm from East London and I studied a degree in Mathematics at Essex University. Both my parents are from Poland originally and I'm fluent in the language. I am a finance apprentice at TfL, particularly within the Financial Services Centre in my first year.
What was your background before becoming an apprentice?
I graduated from university with a degree in Mathematics and was working as an Ad Operations Executive for GroupM. It involved the creation and management of advertising campaigns.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I feel it is the best way to gain a concrete understanding of the company and industry you want to for. The fact you get work experience across various departments as well as qualifications across the time you are working there really appealed to me. There is ab ig focus on personal development, something I don't think you get in a standard job.
What's the best part of being an apprentice?
You get a lot of exposure and experience in different parts of the business through various placements. You meet and learn from different people. At the same time, being able to study and get a globally recognised qualification is a great benefit.
What do you see yourself doing after your apprenticeship?
I hope to have used all my experience form the scheme to have helped establish myself in a role where I have responsibility and the decisions I make have a positive impact on wherever I have been set to work.
Why did you choose this particular apprenticeship?
Finance was always a field I have imagined myself working in. When I was looking for shemes and companies the finance scheme with TfL really stood out - it suited my career prospects with the exposure you get to the business, the qulaifications and future available to you after you finish. Across my education I have always been good with numbers and explaining the facts behind my figures. mI felt that going on the finance route with TfL would be the best way to develop and apply them in order to make myself an asset to the company.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of an apprenticeship?
I would say got for the scheme which suits your career aspects. I personally went with the career path that has always interested me as I have loved working with numbers and communicating my ideas and working with others. I feel those are skills I can apply and develop within Finance at TfL. The future is very bright as an apprentice, especially if you apply yourself and work hard and that is what I'm looking to do.
