Edge Hotel School undergraduate Georgia Thompson has been awarded the prestigious Laurent-Perrier bursary which will see her visiting the Champagne region of France.
Georgia, who is from Bath, had to write an extensive report and then give a presentation before an interview with Brigitte Hennessy, Laurent-Perrier UK’s National Account Manager.
Her award will take her to Laurent-Perrier’s vineyards in Champagne at harvest time this Autumn for an in-depth introduction to this fascinating world.
Georgia said: “I am very excited about this trip. I have always wanted to work in France and this is a chance to experience a vital part of the hospitality industry there. I do like champagne, but don’t get the chance to drink a lot of it.”
Brigitte Hennessy said: “The Laurent-Perrier bursary is intended to give students not only a unique and in-depth insight into the House of Laurent-Perrier but also champagne production itself. This knowledge should prove invaluable to students as they progress through their careers.
“Georgia not only produced an excellent application paper but it was evident during the interview that she had engaged in significant research above and beyond the brief. Her passion for a career in food and beverage shone through. In short I was very impressed.”
Thanks to widespread support from the hospitality industry, the Edge Hotel School is able to offer several scholarships and bursaries to students each year.
