The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London will be taking part in Enfield-Thinks, which is a fantastic new pop up learning shop for Enfield Town Centre. Showcasing training and education opportunities, the first widening access to Education of its kind in London, Enfield Thinks was officially launched last night by a ribbon-cutting ceremony (Weds 1 April 2015) led by Enfield's Deputy Mayoress Pat Ekechi. The Enfield Thinks pop up shop opens to all on Tuesday, 7 April.
EnfieldThinks is led by Birkbeck, University of London and Enfield Council, with support from the Mayor of London's High Street Fund. From 7 April – 27 June, a partnership of education providers -including the College - will be offering FREE master classes, workshops, taster sessions and careers advice for local people aged 14+.
Enfield Council's Assistant Director for Economic Development Neil Isaac spoke at the Launch and said: "Enfield Thinks is a first for us and it is of key importance for Enfield because its focus is to improve access to achieving qualifications and skills at all levels for everyone. Every indication is that Enfield Thinks is a great success. Over 10% of tickets have already been booked and several sessions have sold out."
Each week the partnership will be focussing on a different theme with great activities that you can participate in.
The College will be based at the shop from 20 April – 27 June 2015 to give expert advice and demonstrations leading to courses and careers in Sports, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Creative and Digital Media, Business and Accounting and ESOL, as well as giving advice on Traineeships, Apprenticeships, courses and careers.
Janet Gardner, College Director leading for the College on Enfield Thinks said:
"This is a really exciting initiative from our local council to help provide one place where residents can find out about the complete range of educational and career opportunities available to them. I hope everyone takes full advantage of the pop up shop as they think about careers for themselves and their friends and relatives."
The launch event was also attended by senior figures from each of the local colleges taking part; Birkbeck, University of London; as well as Mark Hayes, CEO of Christian Action Housing, who are the landlords for the Enfield Thinks shop in Burleigh Way.
