College Hairdressing Students Bring Avant-garde To Life
4 years ago

Learners were challenged with researching different looks and constructing a mood board prior the competition. Students were then given ninety minutes to put together the look and the competition was judged on how well the models represented their mood board. Rana Kojour came in 4th place, with Leonora Fiku in third place, Shoreh Shahidi in second with her impressive guitar themed look and in first place was Luciana Mircea with her spectacular Avant Garde interpretation, the addition of hair extensions and a combination of creative techniques. She said: “I was so happy to have won, I wasn’t expecting it! I didn’t know anything about hairdressing when I started the course and now I’ve won first place. I’m working in a salon at the moment and I’m now going to do an advanced course to become a colour technician. I’d recommend this course to anyone considering hairdressing. It’s a great place to learn, the facilities are brilliant and the tutors are really helpful and approachable.”

On the judging panel was Rani Juttla, an external verifier for the College, Louise Constad, an award winning Makeup Artist and Elaine Patterson Course Director of Hairdressing at Kensington and Chelsea College. Elaine said “Lucy is definitely a worthy winner. She displayed forward thinking around the Avant Garde style. She had very good use of extension and colours. Her mood board was styled very well and the final look was a great reflection of it. It will be something that she can take away to show potential employers and demonstrates to them her standard of work.”

Hairdressing team leader, Carol Chapman said “The level of work that the students have displayed today has been outstanding. Every year it gets better and better. This is down to the dedication and motivation of the students and will really help them further their careers.”
