A Sheffield College apprentice is 'swapping jobs' with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.
The Sheffield Hallam MP swapped jobs with 18 year old Genna Hibberson, a second year apprentice pharmacy technician at Woodhouse Pharmacy Direct.
The DPM visited Genna's place of work to learn more about her job and take up her role of helping to dispense pharmaceuticals for customers. In return this September, Genna will visit Westminster to learn more about Nick Clegg's role at the heart of Government.
The job swap initiative is aimed at encouraging more businesses to offer apprenticeship posts and Nick Clegg's One Million jobs campaign which aims to see the number of businesses offering apprenticeships double.
Apprentice Genna Hibberson said: "I have always wanted to work in a pharmacy and this position has allowed me to get my foot on the ladder. Any young person coming out of school or considering their options should definitely think about an apprenticeship. For me it was the best way to start what will hopefully be a good career."
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: "It was great to step into Genna's shoes and learn more about her role at Woodhouse Pharmacy Direct. I'm extremely grateful to her and all the staff welcoming me into the team. What's more, I'm already looking forward to seeing Genna in Westminster when the roles will be reversed."
"More and more young people like Genna are learning the skills they need for well-paid careers this way. Not only do apprenticeships create new opportunities for young people, but companies get the highly skilled staff they need to compete and expand; and communities get a boost to make their local economy stronger."
Brigitte Waring, Manager and owner of Woodhouse Pharmacy Direct, said: "We were delighted to welcome Nick to work alongside Genna at the Pharmacy. Taking on an apprentice has been a great success for our business and Genna is now a valuable member of our team.
"I would recommend apprenticeships to any other business looking at taking on new staff. There are a lot of talented young people out there and working with The Sheffield College couldn't have been easier as they support you every step of the way."
The Sheffield College offers apprenticeships in 26 different vocational areas and is continuing to expand its programme. For more information call 0114 260 2600 or email [email protected].
