Our History
The Toyota and Lexus story is built on innovation, around both products and processes. In 1918, Sakichi Toyoda revolutionised the weaving industry when he invented the first automatic loom. The patent sale enabled his son Kiichiro to enter the automotive industry, producing their first prototype, Toyoda AA, by 1936. Guided by the Toyota Production System, the business continued to grow, launching Lexus in 1989. Today we are the world’s largest automotive company, known as reliable, innovative, and a top employer.
