What attracted you to Essity?
I enjoyed the idea of working within a global company with many different sites across the U.K. & Europe. Working with global brands such as Tork, Cushelle & Velvet, as well as private label companies such as Asda, Costco & LIDL is a massive pulling factor as it allows you deal with numerous different supply chains. Being part of a supply chain programme, I knew I would gain valuable experience across many areas from Production planning to Goods In – allowing me to have a in depth holistic view of the whole site. Prudhoe has also gained a good reputation for their apprenticeships and won many awards which gives little doubt about the quality of training that you will receive.
What was your background prior to joining Essity?
Before joining Essity I completed three A – Levels in Media Studies, English Language and ICT. After finishing my A Levels and before joining Essity, I took a year out of education, which I spent travelling around New Zealand, Australia & South-East Asia. This was important as it gave me a break from education and work and allowed me to see different cultures and ways of life.
What has been the highlight of your programme so far?
All the areas I have worked in so far have been enjoyable. I enjoyed the opportunity to gain my Fork Lift licence when working in logistics and goods in, enabling me to transport the two tonne mother reels around the warehouses, together with the opportunity to work with different crews. Working in Production Planning & Supply Services has given me the opportunity to work with external suppliers, other production sites, customer service teams and demand planning – all increasing my knowledge.
What are your career aspirations moving forward?
Currently, I still have nearly two years left to finish of my apprenticeship. Once completed I would be looking to gain a full-time job in one of the roles that I have performed during my apprenticeship. I believe this apprenticeship gives me a good platform to gain a degree in the future and increase my knowledge within supply chain. Hopefully, this can be done whilst working at Essity.
