Rebecca – Multiskilled Apprentice - Oakenholt
4 years ago

What attracted you to Essity?

Essity attracted me as they are a multinational company that have sites all over the world. They have been established for a long time in the area and have taken on many apprentices offering high quality apprenticeships.

What do you enjoy about working here?

Essity have given me the opportunity to improve my skills, gain hands on experience and improve my knowledge. I have been given responsibilities for conducting my own projects, overseeing contactors and implementing improvements for machinery. My colleagues push me to achieve the best I can, while always giving me different problems to solve and test me.

Essity also have given me the opportunity to represent them at the Make UK Awards where I was a regional finalist for Wales. This was a great achievement for me and for the Oakenholt site.

I feel that my managers see potential in me and are willing to push me to achieve the best I can.

What has been the highlight of your programme so far?

The highlight of my apprenticeship so far has been the numerous projects I have been involved in. These projects have given me the ability to improve my practical and time management skills whilst also enabling me to oversee a project from start to finish, ordering supplies and managing contractors. By completing the projects set to me it has given me a great sense of achievement, watching the progress from start to finish seeing the final product working and implemented on site.

What advice would you give for somebody considering an apprenticeship?

If you’re thinking about it, do it. It gives you skills for life that can be transferred into different fields whilst also giving you the ability to gain knowledge and push yourself to your best potential. It also gives you the opportunity to meet people from other fields that you would have never met before. In my opinion, it has been the best decision I have made of my working career.

What are your career aspirations moving forward?

To become a valued member of the maintenance team, someone who can be relied upon and called upon when needed. I would also like in the future to train apprentices as I fell the maintenance team within Essity have given me some valuable skills and knowledge that I can pass onto future apprentices to achieve the same great standard that those before them have acquired.
