What attracted you to Essity?
I was first attracted to Essity when I was looking for an apprenticeship in high school. I got invited into the company for an interview and a tour, and it was amazing. The sheer size of the place took me by surprise, and just discovering how everything worked, and how dedicated everybody was to their role was admirable. The more I saw, and the more I found out, the more I wanted to get involved.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship over university?
Initially, I didn't know what route I wanted to take. I decided to take an apprenticeship because I learn better practically, rather than at a desk. I got the idea that I would enter the world of work as soon as I left school, which enticed me in many ways. Not only would it mature me, but I could build on my skills, and solidify a future for myself as soon as possible.
What advice would you give to someone who was considering an apprenticeship?
If you are considering an apprenticeship, I would urge you to think about your strengths, and your qualities. If you are motivated, hardworking and reliable, an apprenticeship is perfect for you. You get a full education, an entrance into the working world, and paid to do so from a young age. You can start from the word go, and build a living for yourself, limited only by how much you put in. The company has its many benefits, and there are many success stories from these programmes. If you are certain you are interested in an apprenticeship, don't let anything hold you back.
What are your career aspirations moving forward?
Hopefully, I will be able to secure a job at Stubbins mill when I complete my apprenticeship and become a full-time maintenance engineer. I enjoy the work, I enjoy the people I work with, and I like the location. There is potential to move abroad with the company, but I would prefer to stay local.
