Why did you choose an apprenticeship over university?
I went to university first and it wasn’t for me – I feel I am a hands-on learner. I had lots of fun at university, it was a great experience, but it’s a lot of money when I didn’t really know what I was going to get out of it at the end - my heart wasn’t really in it. With an apprenticeship I now have an end goal and something to work towards rather than not knowing where I will be in 3 years’ time!
What do you enjoy about working here?
Everybody is friendly and wants to help. I never feel like I don’t have someone to ask for help, or that I can’t. Therefore, I feel like I have learnt a lot in a short space of time and will continue to learn too. I also like that no two days are the same and there is always something going on.
What has been the highlight of your programme so far?
Learning lots of new things and feeling part of the team, but I am only a couple of months into my apprenticeship.
What advice would you give for somebody considering an apprenticeship?
Do it, I wish I had done it sooner! I have already started on the path to a great career, have earnings to show for it and am enjoying myself whilst doing it. You may not even have a clear plan of what you want to do but at least you are earning and gaining knowledge and work experience.
What are your career aspirations moving forward?
To keep learning and helping the team, and hopefully keep gaining more responsibility throughout my career.
