At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering apprentice to join the Industrial Operations function with the Leonardo Helicopters division.

Programme Description
In conjunction with the Industrial Operations Manufacturing Engineering team and the Early Careers team, you will have the opportunity to input into the design of your training scheme to include placements which give an insight into the complete Helicopter Product Life Cycle.
Typically, your placements will consist of 3-6 month rotations across the Industrial Operations function.

What you will do
Your main activities may include, but not be limited to:
• Produce and/or amend work instructions, Bills of Material (BOM)
• Creation of Technical Specifications for Delivery (TSD)
• Compile SAP Production Orders to manufacture or rework components
• Creation of manufacturing routings, process sketches and stage drawings to support the manufacturing process
• Identify accurate specifications for material requirements
• Process design changes & introduce into current manufacturing or assembly process
• Identification and requesting of tooling, fixtures and gauges required to support manufacturing process
• Amend work instructions in operational areas to rectify errors and keep the manufacturing on schedule
• Directly Interact with the manufacturing areas and manufacturing personnel (a knowledge of manufacturing, assembly and or machining processes would be advantageous, but not essential)
• Solve daily manufacturing problems
• Conduct non-conformance investigations and problem solving techniques
• Act as liaison with external suppliers for internal products and manufacturing issues and when necessary provide support to working parties
• Take an active role in Business improvement and as necessary carry out improvement activities
• Identification and implementation of improvements to the manufacture or build process and build logic
• Provide information to support an impact analysis for the efficient introduction of change
• Create new or modify existing Numeric Control (NC) programs through liaison with Manufacturing Engineers, Engineering, Operators and Shop floor supervision and other NC Programmers, for the creation of NC programs on a range of NC machines working from Catia V5 stage models
• Supporting NC program prove out at the machine with manufacturing operators
• Verification of NC programs prior to machining using Vericut
Each Apprentice on this route will need to complete an End Point Assessment as defined in the Apprenticeship Standard, this will take place in the final months of the program.
Security Clearance
Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business which includes having a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.
Qualifications required
5 GCSEs at a minimum of a C/4, including GCSE Maths at a minimum of a B/6. These grades are non-negotiable.
