Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and curious IT Support Apprentice to join our DevOps team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about technology and eager to build a career in modern IT operations. You will work closely with our internal teams to ensure that users receive prompt, effective support across a range of cloud-based tools and systems.

This is not a typical helpdesk role - as part of the DevOps team, you will gain exposure to modern infrastructure, automation, and development workflows. You’ll be supporting our internal user base, primarily working with server operating systems, cloud platforms, SaaS tools. While most support is internal, you may occasionally liaise with external vendors or partners. Throughout this role, you’ll develop foundational technical skills and gain experience with technologies such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Jira, MySQL, Python, and Bash, while being supported in your professional development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality technical support to internal users, helping them resolve IT-related issues quickly and professionally.
  • Monitor for new tickets, respond promptly, and escalate where necessary.
  • Track and document support tasks clearly and accurately in our service management tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team to learn and support infrastructure and platform tools, including CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes environments.
  • Support cloud-based services (e.g., Google Workspace, Atlassian, Git) and help manage user access and configurations.
  • Assist with basic device support (Windows/MacOS laptops), account management, and remote troubleshooting.
  • Participate in maintaining and improving internal documentation.
  • Learn to work with tools such as Terraform, Bash, and Python through hands-on exposure and structured guidance.
  • Help identify common issues and assist in automating or documenting their resolution.
  • Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards in all interactions.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and continuous learning initiatives.

Desirable skills:

We’re not expecting you to be an expert – we’re looking for someone with the right attitude, communication skills, and a willingness to learn.

  • A strong interest in technology, IT systems, or cloud computing.
  • Friendly and professional communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working with computers and learning new digital tools.
  • An interest or basic familiarity with any of the following: Windows/macOS, cloud tools, networking, scripting, or general troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to develop skills in technologies like Kubernetes, Terraform, Bash, and Python.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, and ask for help when needed.
  • Some understanding of what good customer service looks like, even if not in a formal setting.
  • Basic knowledge of IT support tasks, such as responding to tickets or troubleshooting common issues (formal training not required).
  • Keen interest and aptitude to learning and developing new skills.

Entry requirements:

  • 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)
  • Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
