Highway Operative

Capita are looking for Highways Operatives to join our successful team. The main focus of the role will be working on all types of Civil Engineering projects across North Tyneside. The projects are not only exclusive to typical adopted highway works but will include bespoke maintenance and capital delivery across our busy network. We are looking for individuals with a can do attitude and enjoy problem solving.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team and report directly to the Site Manager. Job Description Becoming a Highways Operative will give you the opportunity to work in the North Tyneside area on highway maintenance works. Working as part of a 2-man gang with a Roadworker. Working from a pickup based out of a depot or starting on site

What you will be doing:

  • Undertake a range of advanced Highways tasks e.g. kerb laying, block paving, flag laying, laying concrete, drainage and all natural stone products.
  • Undertake traffic management associated with highway functions.
  • Be responsible for the identification of underground services during the execution of highway duties.
  • Use a variety of construction plant and tools
  • Use transport tools and materials and drive allocated vehicles and light plant as required, undertaking appropriate daily checks and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Receive, process and update work records in relation to highway maintenance and construction.

Essential:

  • CSCS Card
  • Must have prior experience as a labourer on civil engineering / groundworks projects (ideally Highways)
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Experience in using a variety of small plant and tools (Stihl Saw, Pneumatic Breaker, Whacker Plate etc)

Desirable:

  • Mini excavator ticket
  • HGV Licence
  • IT Skills
  • NRASWA
