Summary
An Electrical Craft Apprentice trains to become a highly skilled craftsperson within the nuclear industry. You will learn to undertake routine maintenance and fault finding on plant equipment where you will use tools, test equipment and documentation to carry out.
Annual wage
£19,207 a year
Increasing to £21,162 in year 2, £24,719 in year 3 and £23,626 in year 4. Higher rates are applied to those aged 21 and over. You’ll have the opportunity to benefit from an annual bonus, linked to company performance, of up to £4000*

You will be required to work typical site-based hours at Sellafield Ltd, which is 07:30 - 15:40 Monday to Friday. However, you may be requested to start earlier and work hours. To be confirmed.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
You will be training to undertake routine maintenance and fault finding on plant and equipment where you will use tools, test equipment and documentation to undertake these maintenance tasks.
You may at times need to wear personal protective equipment, necessary for work in active areas (such as full PVC suiting, gloves and respirators) and work in confined spaces or at heights.
As an integral part of your apprenticeship your progress will be monitored and assessed against the National Apprenticeship Standard requirements. You will compile an evidence folder, demonstrating your areas of learning with accredited certificates of completion for elements of your training.
Within the last six months of your apprenticeship you will undertake a knowledge and skills assessment by an independently appointed organisation, where you will be expected to clearly demonstrate your ability to meet the apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Your training plan
Training will begin with our Local training provider usually for a minimum of 18 months learning and applying the relevant knowledge skills and behaviours required to be an electrical or mechanical engineer. You will then be assigned a site placement at Sellafield site which will be determined by business opportunity and align to the Training Programme.
You will obtain the following qualifications:
Level 3 ST0154 apprenticeship – Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician
Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
Level 2 Award for Nuclear Industry Awareness (ANIA)

Unfortunately, we are unable to take individuals on to the Electrical & Instrumentation Apprenticeship who are colour blind due to the electrical safety implications.
