The Role:
Looking for a great start to your career in technology, earning and learning on a professionally accredited, award-winning scheme? We are recruiting the cybersecurity experts of the future on our nationally recognised, award-winning Degree Apprenticeship Programme.
Involved in all phases of the Cyber Security lifecycle you will be exposed to the latest tools, technologies, and processes, and have the opportunity to influence the future path of cyber security development within Leonardo. Developing real-time cyber solutions, creating sophisticated analysis and support tools or contributing ideas to innovate the next generation of products - the challenges are varied.
Alongside this, you will also study with one of our partner universities towards achievement of BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) degree in an appropriate engineering discipline through a mixture of work based learning, distance learning and day release at university. On completion you should have met the requirements for Incorporated Engineer as part of the way to gaining Chartered Engineer status.
During your apprenticeship, you will be required to share your time between the workplace and university. You will:
Grow your knowledge of cyber engineering
Develop practical skills in development for complex systems, understanding key processes and technologies.
Support early careers activities - our apprentices and graduates are expected to work as STEM ambassadors in schools, colleges and universities
Commit to the successful completion of all your academic modules and assignments in support of the Apprenticeship standard.
What you will do
Life at Leonardo is never boring! Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be working in a wide range of areas, such as
Building secure systems and networks from scratch
Installing and configuring operating systems, firewalls, and applications
Deploying and using secure Cloud environments such as AWS and Azure
Installing and using DevOps for secure software development
Data analytics with Machine Learning and AI
Detecting and remediating cyberattack
Your work will support critical business areas throughout Leonardo and our customers in the UK government and private sector, and will provide you with great learning opportunities in the field. At the same time, you will obtain the academic knowledge and qualifications necessary for your future career in a high-tech company through your course at one of our partner universities.
You will be working within world-class facilities, in both office and lab environments and will have opportunities to travel to other Leonardo UK and customer sites, to meet with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
Beyond the programme there may be the opportunity for you to further your academic and vocational achievements based on your talents and capability and needs of the business. You would be expected to commit to the successful completion of all your academic modules and assignments in support of the Apprenticeship standard.
What we are looking for
This Apprenticeship assumes little prior cybersecurity experience and is NOT suitable for candidates who already have an engineering, software or computing degree.
Qualifications
3 x A levels (Grade A-C) (or equivalent)
Mandatory: Mathematics and either Physics or a Technology/Engineering subject
AND another STEM subject
Plus
5 GCSE grades 9 - 4 or grades A*-C or equivalent,
Mandatory: English Language, Maths and a Science subject Plus 2 subjects
We will also accept a BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering instead of A levels, but require attendance of the maths bridging course. We consider each application individually in consultation with our partnering university.
The starting salary for this role is £21,525
