Compliance & Risk Officer Apprenticeship Level 3

About the FCA:

From regulating Consumer Credit to driving action on Foreign Exchange manipulation or helping strengthen accountability in the banking sector, the FCA is working with the industry to protect consumers, ensure the integrity of the UK financial system and promote fair and effective competition. Our remit has expanded significantly since our creation in 2013, with the number of firms we regulate growing from 23,000 to over 45,000. We oversee conduct across the full span of the financial sector from global investment banks to high street payday lenders. We do this by working with consumer groups, trade associations and professional bodies, domestic regulators, international partners, and a wide range of other stakeholders.

 

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and motivated individual to gain hands-on experience whilst working towards a professional qualification. Compliance and Risk are key areas within financial services which ensure the business to meet legislative and regulatory requirements. The Compliance & Risk Officer will provide proactive support and guidance to the business areas to ensure that the organisation meets this wide range of requirements, balanced against achieving appropriate customer outcomes. 

 

We hire Compliance & Risk Officers into our Authorisations division.

 

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

·         Taking part in meetings with firms' senior executives. Contributing to meeting preparation and accurately recording what was discussed

·         Supporting the team and department with case administration, including, setting up cases on the FCA system, completing a check before allocating to a member of the team and saving documents onto the system

·         Critically analyse the processes to develop resource saving while maintaining the integrity of the system

·         Assisting in the preparation for external communications strategy, including researching regions, trade bodies and particular finance service issues

·         Reviewing information provided by firms and other external sources to draw out and present key information

·         Challenging existing procedures/ways of working, identifying improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of business process

 

Future prospects:

We encourage and support those apprentices who successfully complete their professional qualification and apprenticeship programme to secure a permanent role at the FCA.

 

Skills required:

·         Working with information from various sources of information and presenting information in a clear and logical format

·         Good Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills and experience - comfortable working with figures and manipulating data

·         Problem solving and solution generating ability

·         Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, positively embracing new approaches

·         Good analytical skills

 

Personal qualities:

·         Good written language and customer service skills

·         Excellent team working skills and the ability to manage conflicting work schedules

·         Ability to work under pressure, meeting service standards, targets and deadlines

Minimum qualifications required (e.g. GCSEs/A-Levels): 

·         Minimum of 2 A Levels or equivalent grade C or above.

·         In addition to 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 (C) - 9 (A) including Maths and English.
