Employer description: City of York Council is the local authority for the city of York in North Yorkshire.
Overview: We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Business Intelligence Team. Our team works with every department in the City of York Council to ensure statutory data returns are submitted in a timely and accurate manner. The team is also responsible for advising colleagues on the best way to interpret and use data. You will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the team’s work.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience will mainly be gained through working closely with colleagues in the team. A Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship will be gained by the end of the course.
Salary: £16,591 per annum.
Tasks will include, but not be limited to:
Collect and process data about in order to support a range of data collection requirements.
Clean and update data held in key information systems in the Local Authority to ensure data quality and accuracy.
Work closely with departments within the Local Authority to ensure that they have access to a range of key information.
Support the Business Intelligence Hub in creating data products and evidence bases around wider work of the team – e.g. Children’s Social Care, Adults Social Care, HR, Housing.
Desirable skills:
Excellent IT skills with the ability to learn how to use computer software
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff across the council and in partnership organisations (e.g. schools)
Proven interest in quickly learning to use database software packages and information systems
Microsoft Excel would be desirable
Due to the nature of the role, high levels of confidentiality will be expected at all times.

Proven ability to work co-operatively as part of a team and flexible as to the duties undertaken
Self-motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise work in order to meet tight deadlines
An interest in self-development and a proven ability to learn new skills quickly
Entry requirements:
3 GCSE's (or equivalent) at grades 4+ (A-C) in any subject
GCSE Maths and English (or equivalents) at grades 3+ (D or above)
Prospective apprentices must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject
You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.
If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
Predicted grades will be accepted at application stage, but confirmation/certificates will need to be provided before any job offer is made.

Future prospects: This is a fixed term apprenticeship employment contract for 17 months however the Council has a great track record of success retaining and continue to develop it's apprentices as full-time employees.
