Job overview
Our Technology & Data (T&D) teams unlock the potential of technology for our customers, our colleagues and for London. In this role, you’ll be supporting our Business Analysis team and working on a variety of exciting projects, such as:
· expanding our contactless ticketing technology to National Rail stations,
· upgrading our Automatic Vehicle Location technology, which tracks London buses,
· protecting our organisation through Cyber Security,
· or implementing a single Asset Management system for TfL, helping to make millions of pounds worth of savings.
There are many projects across T&D all of which are improving the technology used in TfL to keep London moving and growing. These could not happen without the involvement and groundwork undertaken by a Business Analyst.
Sustainability
Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s work ethos, and we ensure that we operate in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world.
What will I be doing?
Your 18-month development programme will be made up of 3 exciting placements, each 6 months long. These will include a placement within the Business Analysis team and then two placements in other TfL teams. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for a successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every apprentice’s journey is unique.
Within the Business Analysis team, you will be gaining valuable insight in core BA skills, such as learning how to elicit, document and manage business requirements and write business processes. These skills will enable you to identify enhancements for the success of TfL and our customers – all the while you will develop valuable experience in engaging and managing stakeholders.
Your remaining placements can be aligned to your interests to support you in your future career. Possible placements could be within T&D Business Architecture, Software Development, Digital, Data & Analytics, Payments Agreements, and more. Outside T&D, your placements could be within Open Innovation, Compliance, Policing, Operations and Security, and Elizabeth Line Business Performance. Your Scheme Sponsor will ensure your placements are relevant and support your development.
Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could secure roles such as a Business Analyst, which could lead to further career development opportunities as a Senior Business Analyst, BA Team Lead, Business Architect, Product Manager, and more. TfL is a large organisation, and the breadth of the Business Analyst role means there are many opportunities to progress, both in the T&D department and wider TfL Organisation.
What training and support will you get?
You will be working towards a BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis and receive other related soft skills and technical skills training.
Our award-winning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience and placements. We'll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking.
You'll also receive one-to-one guidance throughout the programme from your:
Placement manager: Responsible for your day-to-day management and support with your development.
Scheme sponsor: A senior manager who acts as a technical and professional adviser and has line manager responsibility.
Buddy: An apprentice who supports you and ensures that you feel welcomed in the organisation.
Development adviser: Supports your professional development through providing career coaching and career progression at TfL
