Apprentice Plumber

What does an apprenticeship at Ian Williams involve? 

Being an Apprentice at Ian Williams, gives you the opportunity to be “hands on” and learn on the job. You will combine a combination of college and practical learning to study your chosen trade.  You will get the opportunity to put your new skills into practice, while supported by the expert guidance of our experienced tradespeople - your own mentor.   

What will I be doing? 

The specific type of work will vary contract to contract, most contracts will be based in social housing. The types of tasks we cover include: 

  • Learning about a range of systems 

  • Bathroom Installs 

  • Hot and cold Water systems 

  • Emergency repairs  

  • Domestic and commercial sites (although primarily domestic) 

  • Develop a neat and methodical approach to your work 

As well as this, you will: 

  • Attend college to understand “the how and the why” of your chosen trade (usually 1 day a week)  

  • Build a fantastic portfolio of evidence to go towards your End Point Assessment  

  • Be a valued member of the team and contribute to the overall success  

What will I need to apply? 

You don’t need to have had prior experience, all we ask for is; 

  • A genuine passion for Plumbing and hands-on practical work 

  • A positive attitude with a willingness to stick with it and problem solve logically 

  • Commitment to building your career at Ian Williams – we are as committed to you as you are to us  

  • Strong organisational skills (to successfully juggle college and work) 

  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (C) or above in Maths and English 

  • DT or construction based qualification would be beneficial but is not essential 

Although a drivers licence isn't an immediate requirement, if you don't have one it is expected that when you are of age you will begin to work towards this. It will be your responsibility to get to site or an agreed pick up location.

We will only be asking you to answer 3 questions and we don't need your CV, so spend some time crafting your answers based on the skills we have outlined above.
