Apprentice – Pharmacy Services Assistant (level 2)

As an Apprentice Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for selling medicines, answering queries and dispensing Prescriptions within the Pharmacy. You will do this directly under the supervision of a qualified Pharmacist. Full training will be provided to support this role.

The Pharmacy Apprentice will be performing the following duties:

  • Taking in and handing out prescriptions
  • Receiving and ordering stock
  • Selling over the counter medicines
  • Dispensing
  • Advising patients about medications

Entry requirements

  • Basic knowledge of IT software packages, e.g. MS Windows
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • Good literacy skills
  • 3 GCSE's Grade D/3 or above (English Language, maths and preferably Science) or equivalentGeneral interest in healthcare
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Friendly and presentable
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a busy environment
  • Ability to work under pressure

If you are successful in securing an interview, you are likely to be required to attend a pre-interview at the college.

Future Prospects

• Go on to study Level 3 with a view to registering with GPhC.
• Pharmacy Technicians can work in several sectors: Hospital, Community Pharmacy, Air Force and Pharmaceutical Industries.
• In hospital settings, there are several grades for qualified Pharmacy Technicians. They can, for example, specialise in areas such as quality control, staff training, information technology, supplies procurement, clinical trials or medicines information services
