Name: Stephanie Howell
Previous occupation: Valuation Survey Coordinator (non-technical role within a surveying firm)
Reason for choosing residential surveying: As a Valuation Survey Coordinator for esurv, Stephanie’s role involved speaking with qualified residential surveyors day-to-day, booking surveys and managing diaries. It was this that urged Stephanie to pursue the career herself.
“I bugged management for advice on how to become a surveyor without going to university. One of our trainers mentioned the SAVA School of Surveying and gave me the website details. I did my research and then applied to join.”
Reason(s) for choosing SAVA:
“I spend my working days talking to surveyors who tell me all the good (and bad) points of the job so I knew it was what I wanted to do and was well informed before I made the decision. I found the course attractive as it bypasses the need for a 4-year university course, and is much more specific to residential surveying. In comparison, university courses are very broad. It also allows me to work full-time while I’m studying which is great when you have rent and bills to pay.”
