How did you find yourself in this career?

I applied for anapprenticeshipon the advice of a careers teacher at school. Now I can’t see myself doing anything but work in the gas industry. After completing my apprenticeship I qualified as a First Call Operative, and was soon promoted to a Technician.I have recently progressed to a First Line Manager.

"I love seeing women in engineering – we offer so much!!

What’s involved in this role?

I manage the day to day activities of First Call Operatives on my patch. If there’s a gas leak or another problem with the gas network one of my teams will be the first on site to make things safe. I ensure our customers continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

As a female in the gas industry, how would you describe your experience?

I do find I still have to prove myself daily, but not to my male colleagues at work. They’re fantastic. I have to prove myself just like everyone else in order to grow. I love seeing women in engineering – we offer so much!
