Reece- Supply Chain Leadership Apprenticeship
3 years ago

About me:

Hi, I’m Reece, a Supply Chain Leadership apprenticeship, studying a Level 6 Supply Chain Management degree. I currently work in a transport operation for a high street retailer, providing transport to stores, suppliers and distribution centres across the UK and Ireland.

Before joining DHL I was at sixth form college studying A Levels in Maths, Physics and IT whilst working part time in retail.

Why an Apprenticeship?

I chose to do an apprenticeship, as I wanted to continue to develop my education whilst developing professionally in the work place.

Why did DHL Apprenticeships appeal to you?

DHL appealed to me due to global reach of the business and vast expertise in the industry. I felt that this would give me the best opportunity to develop, as there are many opportunities within DHL and they heavily invest in training and development.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

The thing I enjoy about the apprenticeship is that no two days are truly ever the same and there is always something new to learn each day. This has allowed me to develop massively, even in a short space of time as my responsibilities are varied but have an important impact on the day-to-day operation.

What has been your highlight so far?

One of my highlights has been representing DHL in the Big Diversity Logistics Challenge, which was a day full of activities such as laser tag and obstacle courses, competing with diverse teams from across the industry.

What advice would you give to people thinking of doing an apprenticeship?

My advice would be to take the leap and go for it. Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity to learn about an industry that you may not know a great deal about whilst gaining qualifications and hands on work experience. You also learn a lot about yourself and the way you work which aids your long-term development and aspirations. Working for DHL, I am part of the team and am involved in such a wide variety of tasks and projects, more than I could have expected joining a well-established organisation straight out of college. I am proud of the contribution I make and the part I play in DHL and I could not fault being an apprentice as I can continue to study whilst getting stuck into work.
