Real Stories - Anthony, 18

‘When I left college I spent a couple of months wondering what I was going to do next – I just wanted to work and start earning. This apprenticeship has given me direction again.’

Anthony came to Ingeus hoping that the team could help him find the right apprenticeship, and agrees that it couldn’t have gone better. Joining the seriously busy team at the Artful Baker in Sunderland, he’s learnt to make more than two dozen types of bread, and has earned a reputation as the cake man.

Baking can be a tough job and Anthony often starts in the small hours of the morning, but that’s not put him off, saying, ‘I really can see myself continuing as a baker because I’m enjoying every minute. I’m not afraid of taking on the full range of jobs and, for the record, that often includes washing up!’

Owner Roger, wanted to help a young person get onto the career ladder, and says the bakery apprenticeship is working out really well: ‘Anthony is learning our business from the ground up and has the potential to make a real career for himself. We have high hopes for him!’
