Nicholas has worked for British Gas for around a year and is based in Romford, Essex and we asked him some questions about why he chose to work for British Gas and what his role involves.

How did you find out about the role with British Gas?

I registered my details with various job sites on the internet and they sent me an email about the Heating Sales Advisor opportunities with British Gas.

Did you apply for any other jobs at the time you applied with British Gas?

Yes I applied for a Store Manager Role as I had 10 years experience in a similar role with another company, but I decided on British Gas because it’s a great company and a well known brand.

What does your job involve?

Well, I visit customers every day and survey the systems they have in their homes including their boiler and central heating. I sit down and have a chat with them about what their expectations are and make recommendations on my findings.

What are the best bits about your job?

Well it’s that no two days are the same really, every customer is different, I meet different people and I really enjoy speaking to them and solving their problems.

What’s the best thing about working for British Gas?

Well, I have only been with the company a year but everyone has been really supportive and the job security is a real comfort. The rewards are great too, with a pension scheme, fantastic benefits and you get all the tools to do the job such as a car, phone and ipad, what’s not to like!

What advice would you give someone who wants to do your job?

I would say to them that it’s very involved; you can make mistakes as it’s a technical role as well as a sales role, but as long as you are willing to learn from your mistakes then that’s fine, I have. The training gives you the skills to do the role and there is always support their for you.

Do you have any funny anecdotes relating to your job?

I was on the game show ‘Deal or no Deal’ in April and the show was aired when I was in a customer’s house and they recognised me. Unfortunately I didn’t win a major sum; yes you guessed it, I came away with 25 pence! Still it was a great experience and I met some great friends
