Name: Mirna Ayoubi
Job title: Assistant Design Manager
Employer: ISG
Based: Loughborough
Mirna Ayoubi is an Assistant Design Manager working for Loughborough-based international construction services company ISG. Here she talks us through her route into construction, the different aspects of her role and her advice to people interested in joining the industry.
So how did Mirna get into the industry in the first place? “After leaving school I did my A-levels and then applied for universities,” Mirna says. “I got a degree in Architectural Engineering and Design Management from Loughborough University, and then sought to find a locally based role in the industry.”
So what does her role entail? “I work alongside the Project Manager and Facilities Manager to manage all aspects of design production. This includes managing the release of the design from the consultants, as well as from our subcontractors.”
And what does Mirna enjoy most about her role? “I love the fact that it's constantly changing,” she says. “Whether it's what’s happening onsite, or the way a project evolves overall; it all intensifies the experience. Working in construction means you get a taste of everything, and I learn new things every day. It's an industry committed to furthering careers, so hopefully I'll soon be managing my own projects and ultimately become a Senior Design Manager.”
When asked whether she recommends a career in construction, Mirna is enthusiastic. “Construction is definitely the best industry to be in! Having a unique personality and a passion to work definitely sticks in people’s minds. If you prove yourself at the beginning, you can quickly progress.”
