Luke Partridge – Music Instrument Retail Apprenticeship
10 years ago

Can you tell us about some of your responsibilities within the store?

There’s a large selection of responsibilities, the majority of which involve serving customers, taking cash in the till, banking the cash –so there’s a lot of trust in that. Sorting out the stock as well as learning about the products themselves

What areas have you found you have personally improved in the most within your new apprenticeship?

So far I believe that I’ve improved in a lot of team work activities. The staff here are amazing. They are good workers and they’re really easy to work with and help me along the way. And the other thing that I feel I’ve improved in is my confidence with what I’m doing whether it is working with the till, taking cash in as well as the huge learning curve of learning how to do stoke takes.

So what do you enjoy about your role?

You mean other than getting to play all the awesome instruments?

The best thing about this is that I’m a musician in a music store. It is like a kid being in a candy store. There is so much that a musician would love in here. I mean everything from easy ways to get strings, books, tablature…

So what aspects of your retail knowledge are you working on at the moment?

Currently we are launching a web site for the academy of music store and I’m working through learning how to set up that web site itself by adding all our various products with descriptions, images and pricing.

So Luke, what do you hope to achieve from the music retail apprenticeship?

I’m planning on going into other jobs in the music business and hopefully increasing my music career. There are a lot of transferable skills that this apprenticeship gives me that I can go into other jobs with as well.
