Tax Apprentice in Salisbury
Bishop Wordsworth Grammar School
Maths, Physics and Chemistry
Going into my new role at Smith and Williamson I had little idea of what to expect beyond the research I had done for my interviews. But Since I have started I have been surprised by just how much I’ve learnt.
In my role as a tax trainee it is my job to understand the ethos of my clients’ businesses and offer the best possible service based on this understanding. Day-to-day interaction with clients and colleagues means I am always taking on board new information and developing a variety of skills. While I have my own responsibilities, help is always available from more experienced team members to help me complete tasks to the level that Smith and Williamson insists upon. Currently I’m involved in preparing tax and VAT returns for a varied set of clients, from horseracing stables to property developers.
The office atmosphere is both friendly and welcoming, while maintaining a professional environment. Since joining Smith and Williamson in July 2013, I have grown in confidence both in the technical side of the job as well improving my interpersonal and social skills. Working here has allowed me to keep playing the sports I love in my free time, cricket and rugby, which offers a nice balance to my job.
