Josh Birch - Assistant Manager

With experience of training and coaching 20,000 people in the hospitality and catering industry, HIT helped Josh learn the ropes by enrolling him on its Level 2 Food & Beverage Apprenticeship. This offered Josh the perfect opportunity to spend 12 months at The Plough Harborne gaining practical on the job experience in an environment he knew, giving him the chance to learn more about how to deliver high quality service whilst receiving support to improve his maths and English skills.

After successfully completing his first apprenticeship with flying colours, Josh embarked on his climb up the career ladder by continuing his learning with the support of his dedicated HIT trainer-assessor Karen Brookes. He decided to study for a Level 2 Team Leading Apprenticeship to hone his leadership skills, soon followed by a Level 3 Management Apprenticeship to enable him to offer customers an extra ‘wow factor’.

“Josh’s hard work and determination over the years has been rewarded through promotions and it’s been a joy to support his progress up through the company going from bar person, to team leader and more recently into his current role as Assistant Manager,” said Karen.

“Working with Josh has helped us build a great relationship not only with him, but with all of the managers on site too. Having enlisted HIT’s help for many years, both in the kitchen and front of house, managers at The Plough Harborne recognise what a positive impact training and development has on their business.”
