"One of the many positive things that stood out to me and still does is the environment and colleagues in the workplace; they are such incredible, nice, caring, help and understanding individuals."Tell us how and why you took the job you are in at Tilbury Douglas.
In 2021 I was studying at university as a full-time student and even though I enjoyed the experience, I felt like there was a better way to reach my full potential. I thought that gaining experience and knowledge at the same time would be the more beneficial option, as it would also open more opportunities for me in the future. From then on, I started applying to different companies including Tilbury Douglas. Even though
I received other offers I had my mind already made up from the moment I went through the application stage as it ran smoothly, and they facilitated the option to talk to someone if I needed any assistance or had any questions.
Why should people join Tilbury Douglas?
Other than the fact it’s a top company with great history and being supportive when it comes to aiding in shaping up careers for the future generations, one of the many positive things that stood out to me and still does, is the environment and colleagues in the workplace. They are such incredible, nice, caring, helpful and understanding individuals. I was nervous on my first day but was really welcomed and felt at ease as they really express the line “no such thing as a silly question”. This was really important for me as a student who still has a lot to learn from the more experienced people in the company. It made me comfortable whenever I had a question or wanted to be heard and I knew that nine times out of 10 there would be someone who could offer me help with my situation or point me to the right direction.
How does your role impact the business and why do you enjoy working at Tilbury Douglas?
I think over time I’ve learnt that in this industry no task is too small or big and that they are each really significant in order to carry out a successful project. This really impressed me as it also made me feel like I’m helping to make a difference even though I’ve still got a lot to learn. I’ve been given responsibilities such as carrying out schedule of conditions, health & safety documents, ensuring the contractors are competent for their roles, etc; which are key aspects to the project and are a must.
Career timeline
I started off by completing my BTEC qualifications in engineering at 6th form, then went university for one year to study Civil Engineering. Half way through the year I applied with Tilbury Douglas Paragon. Recruitment was successful and after careful consideration with my interviewer we saw how going into the Project Management route would be more suited and better in order to achieve my goals.
