“The tutors are fantastic, very personal, approachable and likeable.” So says 23-year-old Daniel Salvidge of his Smart Training experience completing the Level 5 Diploma in leadership for Health and Social Care, Children and Young People’s Services.
Daniel had always known he wanted to work with children and progress into management and the business side of childcare – and now he’s well on his way to achieving that ambition.
After school he worked with the YMCA while studying A Level Health and Social Care plus BTEC business, then spent a year working in residential care before going to America as a student counsellor.
Then he landed a job at Oaklands Primary School in Biggin Hill, Kent, where he has spent the past three-and-a-half years furthering his career by achieving the Diploma. He is now not only an inclusion teaching assistant and breakfast and after school club co-ordinator but has also led IT programming and coding lessons to teachers as E-safety code leader.
“The thing about Smart Training’s tutors is they adapt their support to what best fits your learning which really helps you to enjoy the course,” said Daniel.
“I would now like to use the knowledge and understanding of management that I have gained to move into a more suitable role where I am able to take the lead and manage.”
