Do you have what it takes to succeed in Film & TV, Sound Engineering, Computer Games or 3D Animation? Futureworks has a wide range of courses in all these areas, offering a real alternative to those not wanting to go to a traditional university.
Employers told us that they wanted graduates that can use the gear and get to work right away as part of a team. We offer our students enough practical hands-on time with industry standard equipment to make this a reality. That could mean filming with the latest HD cameras and editing on Avid or recording sound in 5.1 and mixing it in our Digidesign and Neve Studios. Maybe you will be designing characters in Photoshop and 3dsMax or even programming in Visual Studio, the possibilities are endless.
At our purpose-built school in Manchester, UK, our students benefit from extensive practical experience in cutting-edge studios, learn from experienced professionals, and get direct support from industry employers. Courses range from 2 days to 3 years, and include undergraduate degrees, post-graduate courses and professional training for individuals and organisations.
Whatever your level of experience or ability, Futureworks has a course for you. Find out more about our courses here.
Audio Engineering and Production course - Case Study - Enos Desjardins
I joined the Futureworks Audio Engineering and Production course in September 2007, anxious to get more hands-on experience than a traditional university course could offer.
Futureworks offered me the opportunity to get my hands on the real equipment that is used in the audio industry. Most courses of its kind focus solely on music recording and production but I knew that I wanted to take my skills in a different direction. The Futureworks environment allowed me to mix with both games and film & TV students giving me the opportunity to design sound for films, and create sound effects for computer games as well as recording bands. It soon became clear that working with sound for film was what I wanted to do.
Although my course didn't offer a degree (many other Futureworks courses do!) I was still able to attain industry recognised certifications in the software that powers many of the world's leading recording studios and production houses. This has led me to work on projects such as the Lord of the Rings fan films - The Hunt for Gollum and it's sequel Born of Hope where I was lead sound designer and dubbing mixer.
I have now finished my studies at Futureworks and went freelance earlier this year. My first professional job was a short film shot in Colombia called Lost Bullets where I was in charge of all the sound. We are hoping to make it into a feature film. If we do then I will be travelling to Colombia with the rest of the crew! My clients know that I have the skills and expertise to walk into facilities around the world and start working right away without extra training, I wouldn't be in the position that I am now if it wasn't for the course at Futureworks. Who needs a degree?
