You could be an expert in automotive-paint, car sales, performance turning, or you could even be running the workshop! You will need lots of motivation, passion and the will learn. All of the most successful people in the automotive industry have these things in common.
Unlike some industries, you will get support from your employer and your professional body, whose top priority is to help motor industry professionals throughout their career. From when you’re a student, to when you become the leader of your team.
IMI Skill Auto competition
It is unusual that the people just starting out in an industry get to showcase their skills and level of ability.
IMI, the professional body for the motor industry, recognises that young people at the start of their career journey, are incredibly talented!
Even from an early stage in your career in the motor industry, you will have the chance to take part in competitions like IMI Skill Auto. Skill Auto gives you the opportunity to show your skills and become the best in your field. The competition is fierce, but it’s all about being the best – check out the video from last year!
IMI Skill Auto is a three-day competition where individuals compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. It showcases the skills and expertise of the competitors in these areas:
Judging for IMI Skill Auto is done by selected judges from colleges and training centres across the country, as well as industry professionals. Each competition stream has a lead judge and ateam of specialists in that field, who are also involved in creating the tasks which are designed to challenge the competitors.
Some finalists of IMI Skill Auto have been approached by top employers because they want the best of the best working for them. Entrants go through a number of different stages before reaching the competition, to ensure competitors are of the highest standard.
