Recruitment Sector Gets Its Own Apprenticeship
4 years ago

As of March 1st, the recruitment sector will be getting its own dedicated apprenticeship.

This is in response to the call for standardised training across the whole sector.

James Caan, CEO of Hamilton Bradshaw and a recruitment expert in his own right, has offered the apprenticeship scheme his support, believing that a standard level of training will benefit the industry.

There are already apprenticeships within the recruitment sector, but this new, standardised apprenticeship makes sure trainees are focusing on the knowledge and skills they require for their particular role, which include the assessment of candidates, supporting and coaching them, marketing job roles and building relationships with clients.

Previously, other skills were also learned, such as sales and business administration, which tend not to fit in with a recruitment consultant's everyday roles.

This new apprenticeship is made up of a partnership between the Institute of Recruiters (IOR), training provider Expedient and awarding body Skillsfirst Awards and they, too believe that a standardised training format will drive the industry forward.

Director General of the IOR, Azmat Mohammed, says: “Not only will this dedicated apprenticeship ensure that new recruitment consultants are properly trained for their roles, but we are also hoping that it will reduce staff turnover within the industry. Research has shown that when new employees feel fully equipped and trained to carry out their job to a high standard, their motivation and commitment to their employer increases.”

As head of the IOR Expert Panel, James Caan says: “For Britain to have a nationally recognised recruitment qualification for the first time is great news for our industry. A recruitment apprenticeship will have a positive impact on both job creation and the UK economy. I commend the Institute of Recruiters (IOR) for working with stakeholders to achieve this and believe it will be a great success.”
