To help you jump start a successful career in the leisure industry, Lifetime also gives the majority of enthusiastic individuals the opportunity to earn money whilst completing a full NVQ during employment, paid work experience or through voluntary work in approximately 12 weeks.
Have you ever wanted a job that allows you to combine your passion with great career prospects? Well, if your passion is fitness then look no further for your perfect training opportunity.
Lifetime's government funded Fitness Instructor Apprenticeship is one of a kind. Not only do you achieve a nationally recognised qualification, you are receiving it from a company which has been awarded the status of Centre of Excellence for Fitness for National Employers by the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure. This means you will benefit from the highest quality, industry-recognised apprenticeship in the country. Lifetime is also the chosen training provider to Virgin Active, LA Fitness, DC Leisure and Fitness First, to name but a few.
But don't just take our word for it. Matt Woodhead, 18, has completed the Level 2 Fitness Instructor Apprenticeship with Lifetime and now has big plans for his future career. After a few career set backs, Matt came across the Centre of Excellence for Fitness and decided to apply for one of the programmes. I thoroughly enjoyed the programme, particularly the practical side, and it's been great developing teaching plans for various exercise classes, says Matt. I found the human biology element pretty challenging but the tutors were really patient and were able to explain things in different ways until I fully understood and was happy with the subject matter. As soon as he completed the apprenticeship, Matt walked straight into a work placement at his local gym, Definition Fitness Centre in Birmingham, where he will complete his NVQ. He now plans to complete a Level 3 personal training qualification with Lifetime.
Tom Waterworth, 18, is another satisfied Lifetime graduate. In just one year he went from an A-level drop out to launching a successful career in the fitness industry. Things soon changed for Tom when he signed up for Lifetime's Fitness Instructor Apprenticeship at its Centre of Excellence for Fitness. It was great to be studying in an adult environment and not being treated like a kid, says Tom, What's more, there was plenty of gym-based practical work, so I knew that my job prospects would be much better upon finishing the course. After a weeks voluntary work placement, Tom was offered a full time, paid position as a fitness instructor. He is now completing a work-based qualification in personal training. I am now doing what I always wanted to do. You get a great feeling being able to help someone achieve their goals through fitness. The Activity Leader Apprenticeship through Lifetime gives you a sound understanding of what the leisure industry is all about and will introduce you to leisure operations, group and health related activity leadership and coaching. You'll also come away as a qualified lifeguard so you'll have more than one string to your bow. The apprenticeship gives you practical, hands-on experience in a leisure centre or similar environment and, best of all, you'll have the opportunity to get paid once in a suitable role. You don't need a degree or HND in order to qualify for either route; they are both entry level apprenticeships. And being super fit isn't a criterion either.
Whether you want to be a fitness instructor or activity leader, Lifetime is looking for people with personality, energy and a great attitude. If you want to do the Activity Leader Apprenticeship, it is strongly recommended that you are a good swimmer before applying. Other than that, all you need is a passion for fitness and the desire to work in a job with great career prospects and flexibility (literally!). Training venues are located across England including Birmingham, Bristol, Chelmsford, Croydon, Derby, Leeds, Liverpool, London (Holborn and Southbank), Manchester, Southampton, Staines, Portsmouth and Watford.
