Tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Lottie and I am a Talent Acquisition Apprentice at WBD, recruiting for early talent and studying for my Level 3 Business Administration qualification. I have recently completed my A-Levels where I studied Art, Psychology and Economics and was working a weekend job at a Bakery prior to starting my apprenticeship.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I have always loved the idea of an apprenticeship, getting hands-on experience in an environment full of individuals with endless talent which I didn’t think university could offer me. I also like that, even though my role is specific to recruitment for early talent, I have the opportunity to try out other areas of talent acquisition and even other areas of the company as part of my learning.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
I would say I have enjoyed every aspect of my apprenticeship so far, getting to learn all about the company and its values as well as meeting some great people with lots of wisdom to share with me, including people in my team and other interns and apprentices. Also, as someone who is just starting out in this industry, I also admire the level of trust people put into me when completing tasks e.g., projects. I also like travelling into London so that I can socialise with others but can work from home and lead my own learning.
What has been your highlight so far?
Having been at WBD for a short period of time, it is tricky to say just one highlight that has stood out to me so far! However, I would say that my first day will always be memorable to me, getting to look around the office and see each floor with its own sort of personality as well as getting to set up my computer and different logins which really made me feel as though I was an asset to the company and gave me a bit of an insight as to what I would be doing as part of my role in the future.
What obstacles have you encountered and overcome during your apprenticeship?
I would say that my biggest obstacle I have encountered so far has just been working out the different work platforms and software WBD use. However, with the right support and being able to learn from in-house videos created for the employees of the company, I have successfully navigated my way through.
What advice would you give to people looking to do an apprenticeship?
Don’t be discouraged if things don’t go in your favour, you could get to the interview/assessment centre stage and not get the job but to get to that stage is impressive! Keep applying and learn from your mistakes and you will eventually end up in the right role for you.
