How did you feel on your first day in the Sky office?
My first day in the office was filled with mixed emotions. I was excited to start a new adventure but nervous about entering an area I knew very little about. However, meeting my manager and team melted away any doubts about taking this new path. I felt energised and ready for this new chapter of learning and growing with a new team.
What was it about Sky that made you want to join us?
I heard wonderful things about Sky, like how they value their employees and how nurturing the environment is. That's part of what drew me to apply for a Sky apprenticeship.
The other half was a calling for something new. I needed to explore different work that was unlike what I was used to. And being here certainly keeps you on your toes, constantly changing and having to adapt.
What have you enjoyed most about your programme?
I have enjoyed the relaxed environment. I like having the time to learn and adapt my way of thinking to how Sky runs. Because of that, I have been able to take on smaller jobs from my team. Allowing them to oversee more significant tasks I can't take on just yet. Knowing I can help balance the load of my teams gives me a sense of confidence.
How do you feel about the team you work with, and how have they supported you during your time with us?
Since joining my team, I have been allowed to explore what learning methods best work for me and lean into that. The team are incredibly supportive and takes on board how I learn best. As someone with no prior knowledge coming into this apprenticeship, it has been an enormous help.
What has been the best moment of your time at Sky so far?
The best moment for me was seeing an email come in that needed a fix, and I was able to suggest something to correct it. My team took my suggestion on board, which turned out to be the solution to the problem. It was a great feeling and gave me confidence to know that all the learning I have been doing over the past few months is truly sinking in.
How did your friends/family feel about you starting an apprenticeship at Sky?
They were concerned about it, with me being a slightly older candidate for an apprenticeship. But they knew I needed to find something I was interested in and could immerse myself in. And now that I have been in the role for five months, they can see the change in me, having found something I can dive into.
Where do you see yourself after completing your apprenticeship with us?
After my apprenticeship, I would like to stay in my current team as there is still so much to learn! So many members of my team are full of knowledge.
I want to spend time with them and learn from those who know the systems inside and out. I think this will give me a better starting point to figure out which direction my career will take me.
