Rainton's elaborate and exciting pageant returned to Enfield with a lively parade leaving from Enfield Town, Fountain Island, culminating in spectacular entertainment for all the family at Forty Hall. The pageant celebrates the life of Sir Nicholas Rainton, Lord Major of London in 1632. Local volunteers as young as nine years old took part in the parade. Although the pageant is in its third year, it is the first time the College’s students have been asked to assist with hair and make-up.
Zoe Prosser, Senior Arts and Interpretation Officer, said: “Forty Hall is very much a place of learning and we found it fitting to get local schools and colleges involved. The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London has an excellent reputation and were very forthcoming and keen to get their students involved. The students themselves have been extremely professional after what has been a hectic day of hair and makeup. We are really pleased with the results and will definitely ask the College to come back in future.”
Students researched the 16th century to ensure that the styling was historically accurate and each of the fifty volunteers participating in the parade was given a different look. Hairdressing Level 2 student, Debbie Wells, said: “The day has been non-stop and really busy but it’s been so much fun. There’s a really good atmosphere and we’re all working as a team. It’s great to put what we’ve learnt in to practice and see it come to life.”
Kurt Hintz, Vice Principal for Curriculum and Learner Experience, said: “This is the first year that our hair and make-up students have been involved in the pageant and it’s been a really good experience for them. As a College we believe this kind of hands on experience is invaluable and we try to get involved in as many projects as we can to give our learners a broad scope of knowledge.”
