Throughout the day, visitors learned valuable skills such interview technique and how to get the most out being an apprentice. As a result fifteen people were put forward for five apprenticeship positions with Haringey Council. The Council will be opening up another fifteen new positions this spring.
From 1 October 2015 the minimum rate for apprentices will be £3.30 per hour, minimum hours are thirty per week and include one day’s attendance at the College.
Councillor Joe Goldberg, Haringey’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Social Inclusion and Sustainability, said: “Taking on an apprentice can help a young person to gain the hands-on experience and skills they need to build a long-term career. It’s also good for the borough’s small businesses, with nearly three quarters of apprentice’s successfully starting work at the same employer after their placement ends. London is the world’s greatest city, and it’s vital that together we do more to bring more jobs, training and work experience opportunities that support our residents in getting a foot on the jobs ladder.”
David Chambers from the College’s new, dedicated Apprenticeships Team said: “The day was a huge success; it’s a great opportunity for interested applicants to find out exactly what becoming an apprentice means and the numerous doors it can open for them.”
