The Apprenticeship Programme The Apprentice will undertake the Plumbing and domestic heating technician apprenticeship at Level 3 the training, both in the workplace, and with the Training Provider will support the development of necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) to become qualified.

Main purpose of the apprenticeship

To learn, develop and utilise the skills necessary to install, maintain and repair plumbing and heating systems in varied premises, including but not restricted to, industrial, commercial buildings consisting of living accommodation, laboratories and workshop environments. Plumbers might work in both indoor and outdoor settings. Jobs may include repairs to equipment and systems on building services, systems, infrastructure, plant, and equipment in line with relevant procedures and schedules.

As an Apprentice technician, you will be required to work on typical plumbing elements such as hot and cold water systems and storage, supplies to dwellings and associated pipework, above-ground pipework, connection to below-ground, sanitary pipework, fittings and furniture. Appliances and equipment can include central heating boilers, bathroom furniture, sanitary appliances, drainage and rainwater systems. At the end of the core learning a specialism will be selected from the following, (1) Domestic gas fired hot water heating appliances technician, (2) Domestic air source heat pumps & solar thermal systems technician, (3) Non-Domestic plumbing technician.

Following the practical training period at Gateway the Apprentice must have evidence which will include: 
•    Complete the training meeting the KSBs
•    Evidence of English and Maths qualifications 
•    Complete the portfolio of evidence 
•    Complete training towards qualification listed against the standard (relevant to the option taken)
The apprentice may be required to attend training on-site at the training provider premises.
The Line Manager and Mentor(s) will take a close interest in performance and aptitude. The first six months of the programme will be probationary and there will be regular reviews. The apprentice will only continue if their performance at both training and work meets the requisite standards
