Job overview

London Transport Museum (LTM), located in the heart of Covent Garden, tells the story of the Capital city’s transport heritage. It is a thriving hub, celebrating London’s fascinating past and engaging people in debate about its future.

LTM has been working closely with young people and local communities for over a decade and prides itself on being an organisation that listens to and involves people in decision making and the running of Museum activities

As an apprentice, your 1.5 year development programme will support the Young People’s Skills and Communities team with the organisation, communications and delivery of two of our programming strands; Creative Careers and Communities.

-        The Communities programme works with community partners in Covent Garden and Acton to open up access to museum spaces and resources. We run tours, workshops, training and responsive projects with key community partners in the neighbourhood.

-        The Creative Careers programme is for young people seeking careers in the creative sector. The programme includes creative young people’s projects and helping build opportunities for several development roles including a Khadija Saye Photography Fellow and six Young Freelancers as well as running an apprenticeship network.

Sustainability:

Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s work ethos, and we ensure that we operate in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world.

What will I be doing?

These apprenticeships support the Young People’s Skills and Communities team to deliver a range of inspiring learning activities and opportunities for young Londoners and community partners. You will be a part of supporting young people to build skills, knowledge and confidence to help them make an actual step on their career paths and to help our museum Depot in Acton become a truly useful resource for our neighbours in the community.

You will:

Plan and deliver creative projects and events for young people and community partners, supporting them to learn new skills and share their perspectives and creativity with the Museum

Support the delivery of our ongoing programme of events and activities enabling young people to develop skills and supporting community access to Museum spaces

Support and manage the programme’s administration including; managing the email inbox, creating social media content, processing financial transactions and recording expenditure, organising and planning resources for events and helping to schedule meetings.

Build positive and lasting relationships with a variety of different colleagues in the Museum and key youth, cultural and community partners in order to bring new ideas and opportunities for young people and communities, the Museum and its audiences.

Make a difference to the lives of other young Londoners by advising and shaping the work that we do.

Work as part of a team that will also include another apprentice, six Young Freelancers and the Khadija Saye Photography Fellow.

Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career in the cultural or charity sector.
