IT Data Apprentice

Peak Scientific is offering a fantastic opportunity to develop a hands-on experience with data in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment. You will be part of the IT team who deliver services across the company’s global operations. This will be a 2 year apprenticeship where the successful applicant will work towards their Data Essentials Level 6 and Data Analyst Level 8 diplomas, receiving support and mentoring throughout the placement.

Overview:

Working alongside experienced data professionals, you will gain hands-on experience across our data stack including Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. Ideally suited for individuals who are eager to build a career in data engineering.

Responsibilities:

Learning activities:

  • Completing structured training on data analysis tools (Excel SQL Python) and data fundamentals (MS Fabric and Power BI).
  • Participating in internal workshops to gain knowledge on data concepts.
  • Shadowing experienced colleagues during analysis and reporting activities.
  • Learn about our business applications used across our company.
  • Learning about IT service management approaches.

Data management & processing:

  • Help collect, organise and ingest data from various sources (SAPB1, Zendesk, excel etc).
  • Cleaning and preparing datasets for analysis.
  • Maintaining data repositories.
  • Practicing data quality checks and verification.
  • Become familiar with our data pipelines.
  • Apply problem solving techniques to troubleshoot issues.

Analysis and reporting:

  • Creating simple visualisations and charts using Power BI.
  • Assist in building and maintaining dashboards and reports.
  • Help with regular reporting cycles and dashboard updates.
  • Practice interpreting data and identifying basic patterns.

Team collaboration:

  • Act as the public face of IT Services Department and to treat all customers with courtesy and professionalism.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Communicate progress and challenges to team members.
  • Assist with documentation and data processes and standards.

Desirable skills:

  • Good level of literacy and numeracy – English and Maths National 5 (or equivalent) or significant interest in this industry.
  • Strong interest building data systems and automated processes.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude and analytical mindset.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work on your own as well as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn technical concepts and put into practice.
  • Confident and articulate.
  • Professional attitude and presentation.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Salary: £18,000 - £20,000 per annum.

On completion, as well as the valuable work experience you have gained, you get a nationally recognised qualification at SCQF Level 6.
