Foundations In Accountancy (FIA)

The Foundations in Accountancy is flexible – you can learn in your own way, at your own pace. And you can take exams at a time that suits you. There are different ways to study. You can study online or face-to-face or a combination – choose the path that works best for you.

If you are starting out in accounting and finance or already working in finance but have no formal qualifications, you can start your journey with ACCA at our foundation level.

Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) will give you the financial fluency to understand financial information and help shape business decisions – the essential skills you need to start a great career in finance.

Choose the path that’s right for you

ACCA’s Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) is a group of qualifications that build progressively.  Each qualification has exams which you can take at any time to suit your schedule. You’ll also need to complete the Foundations in Professionalism module.

  • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 2) - Broadly equivalent to GCSE level

  • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 3) - Broadly equivalent to A level

  • ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4) - Broadly equivalent to HND level/first year of a degree

Where you start is up to you. But if you’re completely new to finance and accountancy, we recommend starting with the level 2 qualification and working through each, gaining awards along the way.

You will gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals of financial management and reporting and enable you to speak the language of business.

Foundations in Professionalism

Wherever you begin your FIA journey, you will also need to complete our Foundations in Professionalism module to gain your qualification. This online and interactive module will give you an understanding of what it means to act professionally and ethically in relation to finance.

You can take this module before or after the exam component of your qualification, it’s up to you, and you only need to take it once, irrespective of whether you go on to take further FIA qualifications.

Where can FIA take you?

With a Foundations in Accountancy Qualification, you’ll be ready to work in businesses and organisations of any size and take on roles such as:
