Accounting - Level 2 Certificate (AAT) - Pre-Apprenticeship (16-23) [16 Sept 2026]

ABOUT THE COURSE 

This fast-track AAT course is a pre-apprenticeship that has been specifically designed to prepare you for an apprenticeship in accounting. It will provide you with the skills and experience you need to get to the best possible start in the financial world and understand the foundations of accounting.

During the programme, you will experience visits to global firms, workshops and events hosted by CIMA, Goldman Sachs, KPMG and Bank of England, which will help you discover potential career opportunities and gain employability skills to enhance your job prospects.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The course will provide you with a solid foundation in finance administration. You will be learning the skills you need to succeed in the industry.

During the course, you will study modules such as:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping Transactions and Controls
  • Principles of Costing and the Business Environment

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (A*C) including English and Maths
  • A reference from your previous school/college, with attendance of over 88%

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS - HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

During this course, you will be continuously assessed through skills test and online exams. There will be 4 end of unit external assessments with the course. All units need to be successfully completed and passed to achieve the qualification.

FEES - WHAT WILL IT COST?

Aged 16-18

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31st August 2026 before the start date of your course and you have the legal right to remain in the UK for the duration of your course then your study with us will be free. Please see here for the documents you will need to show us.

Some courses will have other associated costs, such as for specialist materials and trips. Many of our students are eligible for financial support, see here for details.

Adults - Level 2

  • If you are not working or have a low income. You need to show proof of your income or benefits.
  • If you are aged 19-23 and you do not have the equivalent of five GCSEs at grade 9-4. You need to show us proof of any qualifications you already have.
  • Residency rules apply. You need to show you have permission to live, work and study in the UK without conditions for at least 12 months.
  • There are some exceptions, such as certain visa types.

If you do not meet the residency rules, you can still enrol on the course but you may have to pay some fees. All applicants are fee-assessed during enrolment.

If you are not eligible for a free or reduced-cost course, you need to pay the full fee.

PROGRESSION - WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

This course will lead to a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Accounting. You can then progress to a Level 4 AAT, an Apprenticeship Degree or employment in the accounting industry.
